According to the high school’s principal, Darren Howard, the interventions program has helped students climb from D and F grades.     A county resident has been tapped to head up the Sweetwater Combined Communications Center. Last week, the joint powers board overseeing the center announced it hired Rick Hawkins as its next executive director. Hawkins was most recently employed with the Sweetwater County Sheriff’s Office, where he was the captain of the administrative section under former Sheriff Mike Lowell.     A 21-year-old man was charged with a felony after he allegedly punched a 15-year-old boy in the face. Chance D. Wood, of Green River, was arraigned in the Third District Court of Judge Nena James for felony child abuse. He pleaded not guilty and a jury trial is set to take place March 4 at 9 a.m. If he is found guilty of the crime, he could face a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison and a maximum fine of $10,000.     Arkyn William Leavitt is Sweetwater County's first baby of 2019. Craig and Hilary Hollihan Leavitt of Green River expected him to enter the world on Jan. 13. Arkyn had other plans.
