    The Sweetwater County Library hosted their end of summer event last Wednesday. The mini medieval faire included crowns, swords, shields, cotton candy, tattoos, renaissance games and archery.     Brylee Price won grand champion in the junior showmanship division while showing off her rabbit to the judge on Friday morning. This is her first year participating in 4-H with her eight-month-old silver fox rabbit. Brylee enjoyed the event and will be back next year to show another rabbit. "I'm really interested in rabbits," Brylee said. "The showmanship is my favorite part."     Delaney Gardea, a junior at Green River High School, participated in 4-H and FFA events at the fair this past week. This is Gardea's fifth year in 4-H. She entered into six events: cake decorating, photography, baking, visual arts, chickens and pigs. She took home five grand champion, three reserve grand, nine first place, four seconds, one fifth and one seventh place ribbons. Gardea worked hard this past year to prepare for her competitions.     The city's clock tower's sidewalk is full of vibrant colorful drawings from the youth. Last week, the Sweetwater County Library hosted its third annual Chalk it Up! event. They had music playing and chalk, charcoal, paintbrushes and water set out. The participants had a time allotment based on their age. The four groups were from ages 3-5, 6-8, 9-11 and 12-15.   • City combats mosquitos

    The mosquitoes are in full force this summer and the city is fighting back. Green River Parks and Recreation Director Brad Raney, sent out a press release in June about the city’s plan to control the mosquitoes. The plan includes eliminating larvae to combating adults in places around the city. For areas of standing water they are using BTI biscuits. These tablets neutralize the mosquito larvae. They also sprayed the standing waters in the city limits with Vecotbac, which is naturally occurring and safe to use. As for the adult mosquitoes...

    A mother-daughter duo hosted their first book launching party as co-authors on Thursday night. Brigida R. Blasi and Christine Alethea Williams’ book “Women in Sweetwater County” celebrates women who made an impact in the southwest region of Wyoming. The authors are excited to have their book come out the same year as the 150th anniversary of the women’s suffrage movement in Wyoming.     Dakotah Houchin Beck will take her singing talent to the Wyoming State Fair in August. After coming in third place at the Futures Farmers of America’s talent show in April, Beck, a 17-year-old senior at Green River High School, readies herself to perform at the state fair in Douglas. Each year, the Wyoming State Fair asks FFA to provided entertainment for the midway Pepsi stage. After placing third in the FFA talent show, Beck didn’t think anymore of it.     Dancing, bubbles and fun were rampant at Centennial Park Wednesday afternoon. As part of the Sweetwater County Library's summer line-up, The Micah and Me Music Show entertained kids and adults for more than an hour. The musical duo sang songs like "Baby Shark," "Itsy Bitsy Spider," "Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes" and a few original songs to a group of more than 100 people.     The Mansface Mountain Music Festival will kick off its second year this weekend. The festival, hosted by the Muley Fanatics Foundation, begins at 11 a.m., Friday and Saturday. The group is excited to still have its musical line up both nights with the return of Jalan Crossland, who will wrap things up Saturday.     Green River Chaos took the state championship in Casper last weekend. They played six games in a bracket style tournament winning four of the six to become the reigning champions. The last game pitted them against local rivals the Rock Springs Storm winning with a final score of 11-6. The team has been playing together since April said coach Tami Kelley.     Flaming Gorge Days has always been a staple in Green River and some businesses are feeling the effects.     Returning favorites and a few new faces will kick off the farmer’s market next week. The Green River Farmer’s Market begins July 10 and will run until Sept. 11 on Roosevelt Street. The market will welcome four new vendors with 15 returning to make 19 total for the summer.     People from around the country and Canada traveled to Sweetwater County to participate in the Tiffin RV Rally, which took place at the Sweetwater County Events Complex. Sweetwater County Events Complex marketing and events coordinator Lena Warren said the complex has been trying for four years to get the Tiffin rally to come to Rock Springs.     For a fourth year in a row, a free summer food program continues to serve the community. Linda Martin, Sweetwater County School District No. 2 nutrition service director, and Leah Kenison, nutrition service assistant director, have implemented the summer food program since 2015. It is a federal grant given to areas based on the yearly census. Once approved, it is in place for five years. The census is reassessed each year and the five years is extended accordingly.     Denny Pace’s family history created a lifelong passion in World War II reenactment. Pace, a Green River resident, recalls watching war documentaries with his dad, Presley Pace, while growing up. He remembers slowly beginning to enjoy them more after he learned about his own family’s connection to the war.     Quick action by city workers saved a newly-born fawn that fell in a rain gutter Monday morning. Jackie Finch was traveling down Nolan Street with her granddaughter, Aaliyah Byrd, when a doe and her two fawns caught their attention.     Jennifer Edelmayer's lifelong dream to bring a community garden to Green River is coming true. The Wild Sage Garden will be a community-based garden open to everyone.
