Wilson pleads not guilty

Green River City Councilman Allan Wilson pleaded not guilty to a second-degree sexual abuse of a minor charge during a Third District Court hearing before Judge Nena James Friday.

Wilson’s trial is set to take place Oct. 8. He remains out of jail on a $75,000 bond.

A protective order regarding discovery was also granted by James.

According to a motion filed by the Sweetwater County Attorney’s Office, sensitive information regarding the case, including medical records and psychological examinations that could be embarrassing and traumatic to the minor involved in the case if released to the public, will be destroyed at a later date.

The motion also acknowledges Wilson’s charges have generated publicity and social media attention and claims confidential information has come into possession by the press or “persons who have discussed that information in a public setting.”

The motion requests the court to issue a protective order preventing the release of discovery information to anyone, including Wilson, except for an endorsed expert witness. The motion also requested the court that materials be returned to the county attorney’s office for destruction at the conclusion of the case.

Wilson’s charge comes from an allegation that he had engaged in sexual conduct with a minor under the age of 13 sometime during the spring or summer of 2013. A second charge from Lincoln County comes from an allegation claiming he had committed sexual intrusion of the same minor sometime between April 29 and Sept. 1, 2011.

His Sweetwater County charge carries a potential sentence of up to 20 years in prison and a maximum fine of $10,000, while the Lincoln County charge carries a possible sentence of up to 50 years in prison and a maximum fine of $10,000.
