Re-election sought in HD39

Green River resident Stan Blake is seeking another term as the House District 39 representative in the Wyoming Legislature.

Blake, a Democrat, has served in the legislature since 2007, spending the last 11 years representing HD 39.

“I wish to say it has been a humbling experience, and an honor to represent the citizens of Green River, Rock Springs, Jamestown and other parts of Sweetwater County that are in House District 39,” Blake said in a press release.

Blake has served on the House Transportation, Highways and Military Affairs Committee and the House Agriculture, State and Public Lands and Water Resources Committee since 2007.

In 2009, he was appointed to the Select Water Committee. In 2013, he was placed on the Select Federal Natural Resource Management Committee, where he served for two years and was put back on Select Federal Natural Resource Management Committee in 2017. In 2015, he was placed on the Select Committee on Tribal Relations. In 2015 and 2016, he served as co-chairman of that committee.

Blake said he’s seen attempts to divert water from the Green River firsthand while serving on the agriculture and Select Water Committee and vows remain vigilant against future attempts to divert the river’s water.

He also wants to fight to keep the federal government from restricting access and use on public lands.

“I will work to keep our land open and available for our use. Historic use of our federal lands should not be changed. I believe that our federal lands should stay in control of the federal government with more input from state and local entities on their control and administration. Keep public lands in public hands,” he said in his announcement.

Blake has also supported Wyoming’s National Guard and soldiers living in the state. In 2012, he was the main sponsor for the Gold Star License Plate Bill, which expanded eligibility for family members who lost loved ones as a result of their military service.

He was given the Legislate Support Award from the Wyoming Veterans Commission that year.

More recently, he supported a bill to create wildlife conservation license plates during the 2018 session.

Money raised from the sale of these plates will be used for conservation efforts related to the state’s transportation system.

He also voices support for the state’s educators and its education system and will work to find a solution to the funding issues facing education.

Blake is employed by the Union Pacific Railroad as a switchman. He is a member of the SMART-Union, Transportation Division Local No. 1857. Blake has spent 61 years in Wyoming, the last 28 in Green River. Blake is also a proud member of the National Rifle Association, receiving an A rating in past elections. Blake is also a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie No. 2350 of Green River.

Stan does a fine job of representing Green River and Sweetwater County in the Wyoming House of Representatives. He's level headed and well spoken. We could use more folks with those talents in state government!
