Lady Wolves continue to struggle

The Green River Lady Wolves soccer team had a tough weekend on the east side of the state and came home with two more losses.

On Friday, the Lady Wolves took on Natrona County and lost in double overtime 4-3. The loss hurt.

“We were the better team,” head coach Tracy Wyant said. “The score would not represent how we played.”

Wyant said the Lady Wolves were doing really good thing throughout the entire game, but when they didn’t score off five break aways, it left room open for Natrona County to fight back.

“No team is perfect,” Wyant said. “We can’t afford not to capitalize in the opportunities to score.”

Wyant said the Lady Wolves missing shots and then making minor mistakes allowed Natrona County to capitalize on those mistakes.

“We’re not finding the back of the net,” she said. “In the back of my mind I know what the score should have been.”

That’s what made the loss again Natrona a hard one to swallow.

Chezney Mamalis and Carly Kettering were the two Lady Wolves who scored the goals in the Natrona game.

During the Kelly Walsh game on Saturday, the Lady Wolves were just not playing like they normally do. Kelly Walsh has a strong team, but not as strong as they have been in the past, Wyant said. However, they are good at stretching out the opponents’ defense and then making plays.

“On this one, we just didn’t play to our level,” she said.

Wyant said she wasn’t sure if the Lady Wolves were still tired from the previous night’s game against Natrona, if they were still upset with the outcome of that game or if it was because Kelly Walsh is a stronger team then they have played so far, but they weren’t playing the way they normally do.

Wyant has noticed that once another team gets a couple of goals, the Lady Wolves are impacted mentally by it. They don’t stop playing hard, but they start to struggle to work as a team.

This week the Lady Wolves will play at home. Wyant said the girls like playing at home because they get to eat home-cooked meals and sleep in their own beds.

“It’s always better to play at home,” Wyant said. “You want to perform well in front of your fans.”

Wyant said she is still moving players around to see which positions will work.

The Lady Wolves will take on the Rock Springs Lady Tigers on Saturday at 10 a.m.
