Many attend fundraising event

With the parking lot at Castle Rock Rehabilitation Center full, residents had no choice but to park along Highway 30 to attend the annual Easter Carnival.

For the fourth year in a row, CRRC hosted an Easter Carnival for its spring fundraiser.

All of the proceeds raised during the event will go to the activities fund.

Marilyn Dockter, CRRC social services director, said the center used to host an annual Easter egg hunt, but then they decided to change it to a carnival because a lot of other places in Green River started hosting Easter egg hunts.

"When we started the carnival, it was with the idea that the kids get to interact with residents," Dockter said.

During the carnival, families spend about 30 minutes in the center, but at the egg hunt it was about 5-10 minutes.

"Nothing makes the residents happier than interacting with kids," she said.

On average about 400 children accompanied by their parents visit the center for the carnival. When the carnival is mentioned around the center, residents perk up.

"The get excited about it," Dockter said.

She said this type of an event is great for the community and the residents.

It also continues to benefit the residents because the funds raised go to help pay for activities the residents participate in throughout the year.

This year, Dockter was overjoyed with the amount of baskets they received. She said they usually have 10, but this year it was double that amount.

"So many merchants were so generous," she said.

Dockter wanted to thank all of the volunteers who set time aside to help out with the event. Without the help of volunteers there is no way they could get an event of this size done.

This event also ties in with the Eden philosophy, which is something the employees at CRRC try to encourage.

She said if the event can incorporate children, pets or plants, then it is worth having because it provides the residents with a rich, homelike feeling they enjoy.
