GRHS makes gains in track and field

Finally stepping out after the winter sports season, the Green River High School track team are focusing on self improvement this season.

Head coach Dan Hansen said he’s excited for the upcoming season. While losing nine of his 45 kids from the indoor track season, Hansen has 93 students who have signed up to compete in track-and-field events. Hansen said a number of the students are new to track and are enthusiastic about the activity. Hansen said his coaching staff are working with the new members, figuring out which events they would be most suitable for. Hansen said he’s working on helping the team improve in their events, aiming to get more students qualified for state. So far, two have qualified: Erika Wilson in the high jump and Natasha Young in the discus.

“Our goal is to just get better,” he said.

Hansen said he’s looking forward to seeing great things from his track team, but also hopes the weather will allow for better performances from students.

“I hope the weather cooperates with our endeavors,” he said.
