Lady Wolves end season with 2 losses

The Lady Wolves basketball team ended its regular season with two losses at home.

This past weekend, the Green River High School Lady Wolves played Natrona County and lost 64-26. They also played and lost to Kelly Walsh, 69-35.

“We competed pretty well rebounding wise,” head coach Rick Carroll said.

Kelly Walsh only had one more rebound than the Lady Wolves, he said.

“(Against) Kelly Walsh we gave up too many offensive rebounds,” Carroll said. “They’re a good team and we just can’t do that.”

Natrona County beat the Lady Wolves on the court, Carroll said.

The team continues to struggle since losing seven players to injuries. The entire starting lineup is out. Most of them are dealing with knee injuries, one has a broken wrist and one tore her ACL. Carroll’s playing all of the seniors and bringing up players from JV to fill the team.

He said the team just needs to settle down and get up and down the court.

“We let their presses, in both teams, bother us,” he said.

Ball handling is another area the team needs to improve on. The players are having trouble getting the ball to where it needs to go on time. It’s either thrown too soon or too late.

Shooting is something the team also needs to improve on.

“In fact, we missed some easy baskets,” Carroll said.

More than once, a player went down the court for an uncontested layup, but missed.

“Every opportunity you get, you need to put it in the hole,” Carroll said. Despite losing all of their conference games, the team hasn’t stopped playing hard.

“They’ve continued to work hard all year,” he said.

The team will travel to Jackson to compete in the regional tournament. The Lady Wolves, seeded No. 6 and will play Natrona County, seeded 3.

Carroll said once the team loses their season is done.

“Obviously, the odds are stacked against us,” he said.

Carroll said the team has come up with a game plan and they will follow that plan and see what happens on Thursday when they play Natrona County at 7 p.m. in Jackson.

Leading the team in the Kelly Walsh game, was Tayana Crowder with 14 points, 11 rebounds, one assist and one block, followed by Hannah Hix with 12 points, six rebounds, one assist and two steals.

Leading the team in the Natrona County game, was Crowder with seven points, two rebounds and two steals, followed by Erika Wilson with seven points, four rebounds, one assist and two steals and Aaliyah Brady with five points, two rebounds and one steal.
