Mamalis signs with Sheridan

A Lady Wolf will receive a promotion when she takes to the soccer field as a Sheridan College General after graduation.

Chezney Mamalis signed with Sheridan College Jan. 17 during a short signing ceremony at the Green River High School athletics office.

Head girls soccer coach Tracy Wyant said the Sheridan team is lucky to have signed her, saying Mamalis puts in the work needed to be a better player. She also believes Mamalis will thrive at the college level, but also has high hopes for her final year as a Lady Wolf.

“This year is going to be your best year,” Wyant said to Mamalis.

Wyant said she will miss Mamalis’ spunk and tenacity, as well as the leadership she has provided to the team.

For Mamalis, the reason why she signed with Sheridan came after visiting the college and liking what she saw with both the girls soccer program and the college itself.

“I thought it was the best fit for me,” Mamalis said.

During her visit, Mamalis said she thought the coach was nice and enjoyed meeting other members of the team.

So far, Mamalis hasn’t decided on a specific field of study, aiming to complete her general studies at Sheridan College.

Mamalis has played soccer since she was five years old. While she has played other sports, she said she always keeps coming back to soccer.

“I just enjoy how fun it is,” she said.

According to Wyopreps.com, Mamalis scored four goals and had one individual assist during the 2017 regular season.

She was also named to the All-Conference list at the end of the season.
