Two more swimmers qualified for state this weekend during the Lyman and Green River meets.
The Green River High School swimming and diving team, added Miles Moffat to the state qualifying list in diving, while Logan Johnson qualified in the 100 breaststroke. So far, the team has 10 state qualifiers and they are hoping to add a few more before state.
“They had some solid swims in Lyman,” head coach Colleen Seiloff said.
During the Lyman meet, Seiloff had the boys compete in different events. She said sometimes people just get burnt out doing the same things every week.
This was their opportunity to try different events that she thought they might be good at.
Throughout the season, Seiloff watches to see which swimmers might do better in other events and then she lets them try it.
“You never know what events I’ll swim people,” Seiloff said.
The more areas a swimmer can compete in, the more likely they are to make it to state, she said.
At the Green River meet, senior swimmers enjoyed their last meet in front of the home crowd.
“It’s tough to see that group go,” Seiloff said.
Seniors on the team this year are Ethan Moffatt, Coleton Spalding, Miles Moffat, Logan Johnson, Ty Sturlaugson, Brody Belcher and Devin Ratliff. She’s worked with them since they were freshmen and she will miss them.
Green River is always a great place to swim and the younger swimmers on the team showed it with time drops, while the older swimmers maintained their times.
This week, the team will prepare for the Campbell County High School meet in Gillette.
“It’s a long ways away, but we like going up there,” she said. “We usually swim well and pick up (state) qualifiers. We’re hoping that will happen again.”
