Ice accumulation monitored

The Green River has slowly backed up over the last week as ice has hindered the river's flow.

Water from the river has risen and froze portions of Riverside Park, as well as submerging sections of the Greenbelt.

Brad Raney, Director of the Green River Parks and Recreation Department, said there isn't a lot the city can do, but monitor the situation.

"We don't have anything in our department to deal with (the ice,)" Raney said.

"We hope that it clears up."

Raney said the department has closed sections of the Greenbelt that have submerged, but there isn't anything else the department can do about the backed up river water.

Sweetwater County Emergency Management employees were seen photographing the ice Thursday morning.

However, multiple phone calls and an email were not responded to by press time.
