Notes from Town Square: The Lucky Cactus downtown

Have you seen the Lucky Cactus Tattoo shop on Main Street? They opened just a few months ago and are very excited to be in Green River. The shop is owned by Chace Young, Regina Khisamova and Colby Moss. It conveys a welcoming environment and has three private rooms for each artist. Young said it was important for them to be able to offer a sense of privacy for their customers.

Young graduated from Rock Springs High School. He participated in advanced art classes and continued to develop his skills outside of the classroom. He started tattooing in 2008 in Denver, going through a professional apprenticeship. He has been tattooing since then in various shops across the country and even in Russia. He has been featured in newspapers and magazines in Sweetwater and Sublette Counties.

Khisamova went to school and got a masters in English from a Russian university. After moving to America, she attended WWCC, taking art classes from Florence McEwin. After that she decided to put her talent to work by becoming a tattoo artist.

Colby Moss also graduated from Rock Springs High School, took advanced art classes and was the owner of a successful tattoo shop. They all connected forces last year and collectively decided to choose a better, cultural locale for the new shop. They love downtown Green River for the foot traffic it provides. “East Flaming Gorge Way has a vintage atmosphere and a welcoming feeling. Downtown’s business population diversity and the natural beauty of the riverside make the location desirable for visitors,” Khisamova said.

Khisamova and Young have two children and always enjoyed the atmosphere of Green River. She said that it just clicked one day that they should be here. The river, parks, the sound of the train, the calm kindness of the town, the people they encountered all make it a good choice for them.

One of the challenges as a new business owner is getting the word out that they are here. Being a small, startup business, mass advertising is a little out of reach. They have some great marketing ideas and are excited to implement them. They also really want to be involved in the community and the Main Street program.

So, when you are in the market for a new tattoo, stop in their shop and visit with them. If tattoos aren’t your thing, go in just to admire the artwork they have displayed. Their gallery is growing and is a nice addition to our downtown.

We’d also like to remind you, especially through the holiday season, but year round as well, to shop locally. You might be surprised at the services you’ll find available right here at home.
