Rev. Dennis Serdahl

Rev. Dennis Serdahl, retired priest of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, Mountain Home, Ark., died Nov. 25, 2017.

He was born in Des Moines, Iowa, July 8, 1933. He was a graduate of the University of Illinois, earning a degree in business. He was active in the University Choir, Oratorical Society, President of the Singing Ellini that appeared on the "Ed Sullivan Show." He entered the U.S. Air Force at Lackland Airforce Base, San Antonio, Texas, and was commissioned as Second Lieutenant.

He married Margot Horn, Oct.19, 1958.

He received his master of divinity degree from Bexley Hall Divinity School at Kenyan College in Gambier, Ohio in 1964. He served as minister in St. John's in Youngstown, Ohio; Rector at St. John's in Green River, St. Paul's in Salinas, Calif., and Redeemer Church in Pendleton, Ore., and Cannon Missioner in diocese of Rio Grande, Albuquerque, N.M.

In Youngstown, he represented the ministerial association in Selma Alabama with Dr. Martin Luther King. In Green River and Salinas, Calif., he facilitated the relocation of three Vietnamese families to the United States. He was also instrumental in bringing the Durakovic family from Bosnia to in Mountain Home, Ark.

He is survived by his wife Margot; as well as three sons, Christian Serdahl and wife Clarissa of Davis, Calif., Eric Serdahl and wife Jean of Livermore, Calif., and Gregory Serdahl of New York City; three granddaughters, Emily Claire Serdahl, Natalie Margaux Serdahl, and Sadie Marie Serdahl.

The family requests donations be made to St. Andrews Episcopal Church and Hospice of the Ozarks. A memorial service will take place Saturday, Dec. 2 at noon, at St. Andrews Episcopal Church.
