Green River man to serve prison time

A 22-year-old man who got a boy drunk and then raped him will be serving at least eight years in prison.

Patrick Beltran Gomez of Green River recently appeared in the Third District Court of Judge Nena James at a change of plea and sentencing hearing to two felony counts of second-degree sexual abuse of a minor and two misdemeanor counts of furnishing alcohol to a minor.

In exchange for Gomez’ guilty plea to one felony count of second-degree sexual abuse of a minor and one misdemeanor count of furnishing alcohol to a minor, the other two charges were dismissed.

Gomez’ was given an eight-to-15-year prison sentence on the felony charge and a two-day jail sentence on the misdemeanor charge. The sentences will run concurrent with credit given for two days already served.

According to court documents, on Jan. 23, 2017, officers spoke with a 13-year-old boy who said around the first week in December of 2016, he and his 17-year-old brother went to visit their cousin.

When they arrived at their cousin’s house, they met Gomez, who they recognized as someone they had met before.

Gomez had brought alcohol with him to the home and gave some beer to both boys. After a couple of beers, the 13-year-old boy said he felt dizzy and had a headache.

The brother said after a few beers, Gomez and the boy were wrestling on the ground and he could hear his brother telling Gomez to stop touching him inappropriately or he was going to stop wrestling with him.

Gomez stopped the inappropriate touching only after the boys told Gomez they would tell their father if he didn’t stop.

At some point in the night, the boy was sleeping on a bed in the home. He recalled being completely naked and so was Gomez. The boy told he officer Gomez had raped him.

The next morning, the boy woke up in his own bed, but he could’t remember how he got home, let alone how he got into his own bed.
