Wolves successful at Evanston, Utah track meets

This past Thursday the Green River Track team traveled west to take on a familiar group of opponents as they competed against all the Southwest Wyoming teams at Evanston.

There were two double winners for both the girls and the boys as sprinter, junior Andri Dewey won the 100-meter dash with a state qualifying time of 12.44 and also took first in the 200 meters in 26.68. For the boys, senior Hunter Spartz won the two throwing events, winning the shot put with a throw of 48’0,” equaling his best throw of the season and winning the discus with a throw of 136’09.50.”

There were two other event winners, one each for the boys and the girls. Thrower junior Natasha Young won the discus with a throw of 100’0 and senior Braden Reichel won the 400 meters in 53.70.

Second-place finishers for the Wolves included Kaisa Arnell in the 1600, Lauren Hoyt in the long jump and Natasha Young in the shot put, while junior Cole White took second for the boys in the 400 meters. Also finishing near the top for the Lady Wolves was sophomore Erika Wilson taking third in the long jump and junior Miles Moffat taking third for the boys in the 1,600-meter run.

Many of the Wolves competitors for both girls and boys improved on their seasons personal best.

On Saturday, several competitors for both the boys and the girls traveled south to Taylorsville, Utah, to compete. Reichel broke the school record in the 1,600 meters, placing second with a time of 4:21.14. Spartz prequalified for state in his second event as he threw the discus 143’ and took second in the shot put with a throw of 47’8.”

Reichel also ran a fast time in the 800 meters, taking fourth in 1:59.86, while Kaisa Arnell, a sophomore, ran her personal best of the season in the 3,200 meters at 12:24.22.

Head coach Dan Hansen was pleased once again with the progress of his competitors. Next for the team is the Green River Invitational Track Meet Friday from noon to 7 p.m.
