Raynaldo A. Maestas

Raynaldo A. Maestas, 87, of Superior, died March, 6, 2017, at Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County. A longtime resident of Superior and former resident of Point of Rocks, Maestas died following a sudden illness. 

He was born on July 7, 1929, in Taos, N.M., the son of Desiderio and Pablita Mondragon Maestas.

Maestas married Rose C. Maestas, in Santa Fe, N.M., in 1951. Their marriage was the first marriage to be blessed at the new St. Vivian's Church Dec 28, 1952. His wife passed away on March 6, 2016.  

He was a member of the Holy Spirit Catholic Community and St. Vivian's Parish in Superior and he was a Golden Eagle member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles Aerie No. 151. 

He was employed at Union Pacific Railroad for 38 years and retired in 1988 as a section hand.

His interests included camping, fishing, rock hunting, gardening especially his strawberry patch. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and gambling. 

Survivors include three sons, Bino Maestas and wife Diane of Rock Springs, Ray Maestas Jr. of Pensacola, Fla., and Steve Maestas and wife Mary of Green River; three daughters, Lourdes Abram and husband Patrick, Loretta Abram and husband Bobby, all of Rock Springs, and daughter Lisa Nussbaum and husband Mark of Green River; 13 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, daughter Mary Maestas; two brothers, Tom and Elias; five sisters, Sarah, Emma, Dora, Flossie and Mary.  

A Mass of Christian burial took place Monday
