A sibling fight is the reason for one woman being placed on probation.
Misty R. Mares, 25, of Green River appeared in the Third District Court of Judge Richard Lavery at a change of plea and sentencing hearing aggravated assault and battery, which was reduced to a misdemeanor charge of reckless endangering.
Mares pleaded no contest to the charge and was given a one-year suspended jail sentence and one year of unsupervised probation.
According to court documents, on Aug. 17, 2016, officers responded to the Flaming Gorge Motel to check on a domestic dispute report.
After arriving, officers spoke with Misty who said she was involved in a physical altercation with her brother Anthony Mares. She said her brother, who was uninvited, showed up to her hotel room and began to argue with her over her current boyfriend.
She said they began pushing each other and Anthony pushed her on the bed and was holding her facedown on the mattress. Misty admitted to grabbing a knife from the nightstand and pointing it at Anthony.
The officer saw Misty remove a knife which appeared to be a folding knife from behind the door. The knife was open when Misty retrieved it.
The officer also noticed the knife was pink and the blade was black with the words “Femme Fatale” imprinted on it.
Officers spoke with Anthony who said he received a call from his sister Misty who told him to come over to the motel and help her because she had just had a fight with her boyfriend.
Anthony said when he arrived he was yelling at his sister and telling her she needed to get help and leave her boyfriend. He said Misty then freaked out, grabbed a knife and held it at him with the blade pointing towards his head.
Anthony’s girlfriend, Micki Thomas, was interviewed and she said she saw Misty hold a knife toward Anthony’s head. She said the Misty then hid the knife by the door while Anthony called the police.
Misty later recanted what she had told the first officer and said she never touched a knife and the one she gave the officer was used to make bagels in the morning.
