Center to host fundraising event at events complex

Amid a budget crunch, the Sweetwater County Child Developmental Center will host a fundraiser to help cover costs.

Center director Lu Kasper said the second annual Career Day is the same as last year’s event, but with one exception it acting as a fundraiser for the center.

“Last year was pretty much a hit,” Kasper said. “We had over 600 people.”

For an event of this size, the center chose to host it at the Sweetwater County Events Complex from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Jan. 21. Those who decide to attend will pay $3 per child or $10 per family with more than four children, to meet teachers, police officers, firefighters and other professionals. Children will also have the chance to jump in a bounce house, explore a mini town or play mini golf.

Food, including hotdogs sold by the Rock Springs Parent Teacher Organization and baked goods sold by the Green River Parent Teacher Organization, will also be available for people to purchase.

Kasper said not only are there activities for the children to participate in, but there are numerous baskets residents can bid on in a silent auction or they can try their luck at purchasing a raffle ticket to try and win a basket. These baskets range in value from $100 to $300, she said.

With about 18 baskets to chose from, a resident is sure to find one they are interested on purchasing a raffle ticket for or putting down a bid in the silent auction. Those who participate in the silent auction or raffle do not need to be present to win. All of the winners will be announced and contacted after Saturday’s event.

Assistant director Jen Figenser said children will also have the chance to see real mini and regular sized horses.

She said everything is taking place inside the building so children will not get too cold.

Figenser said the center is also giving away free balls and crafts to children; and will have a firetruck and firefighters at the events complex for children to visit with.

When children are not busy playing, they can visit vendor booths with their parents. For more information call 872-3290.
