Franz T. Schillumeit

Franz T. Schillumeit, 83, of Green River, passed away at the Mount Olympus Rehabilitation Center in Millcreek, Utah, following a lengthy illness. He was a resident of Green River since 1981 and former resident of Put In Bay, Ohio.

He was born in Put In Bay, Ohio on Oct. 29, 1933, the son of Harry Franz Schillumeit and Dorothy L. Stoecker Schillumeit.

He attended schools in Put In Bay, Ohio, and was a graduate in 1951.  

Schillumeit married Mayoda McDowell and they later divorced. He later married Mary T. Etzel Smith in Las Vegas, Nev., Aug. 19, 1994.

He was a United States Marine veteran of the Korean Conflict as a sergeant and served from 1951 until 1960, when he received his honorable discharge due to an accident on the flight line in San Diego, Calif. He was attached V.M.A., 212 3rd Marine Air Wing.  

Schillumeit was the owner-operator of Franz's Plumbing and Heating in Put In Bay, Ohio, for many years also he was the chief of police.

He was a deputy sheriff in Ottawa County, Ohio. He retired in 1981 and came to Wyoming. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church.

Schillumeit was a life member of the Veteran of Foreign War and the American Legion. He was Post Commander of the V.F.W. Post 2321 from 1989-1993. He was also a Post Commander of the V.F.W. Green River "Paper Post." State of Wyoming V.F.W. Commander from 1992-1993.  He received various achievements and recognitions throughout.

His interests included, spending time with family, fishing in Lake Erie and enjoyed gambling.

Survivors include his wife Mary T. Schillumeit; one son, Theodore "Ted" Schillumeit of Philippi, W. Va .; one step-son, Luke J. Smith and his wife Angel of Eden; one daughter, Doretta Finley and husband Gerald of Yuma, Ariz .; one step daughter, Tammy Landeros and husband Octavio of Rock Springs; one sister, Virginia Blumensaadt and companion Steve from Akron, Ohio; one brother -in-law, James Getz of Rock Springs and one sister-in-law, Madeline Endres of Sacramento, Calif. Numerous grandchildren, several cousins, nieces, nephews, many friends and family also survive.

He was preceded in death by his parents; former wife Mayoda Schillumeit; son Glenn Schillumeit; step-son John Henry Smith; two brother-in-laws, Bill Blumensaadt and Richard Sweeney; one sister, Carol Sweeney and one sister-in-law, Mildred C. Getz.

Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be conducted 2 p.m., Friday at Vase Funeral Home in Rock Springs. Military honors and inurnment will be at the Rock Springs Municipal Cemetery.
