Three games, three wins for Lady Wolves

The Green River Lady Wolves basketball team kicked off the season in a good way with three wins on the road.

“It feels really good. It was great for the girls. A good way to start the season,” head coach Rick Carroll said.

Last Friday and Saturday, the Lady Wolves traveled to Lyman to compete at its tournament.

On Friday the team played Big Piney, which was a team they never played before. Carroll said the Lady Wolves didn’t let that get to them, they just continued to work on what they needed to during the game and came out on top in a big way, 68-38.

The next two games against Lyman and Mountain View were much closer. Carroll said last year was the same. In fact, at the Flaming Gorge Classic Basketball Tournament last year the Lady Wolves lost to both Lyman and Mountain View in close games.

During this match up, the Lady Wolves came out on top of Lyman in a real nail biter, 54-53. They also beat Mountain View, 54-50.

This week, the team will continue to focus on boxing out the other player on defensive rebounds and shooting the ball.

“We are going to spend a lot of time shooting,” Carroll said.

The Lady Wolves are good at getting the ball to the shooter, but the shots are not going down.

This is something the team will be concentrating on.

This weekend the Lady Wolves will have the home-court advantage during the Flaming Gorge Classic Basketball Tournament.

They will play at least four more non conference games against this weekend, including Rawlins, Star Valley, Worland and possibly Mountain View.

Leading the team in the Big Piney game was Taylor Stoeger with 18 points, 10 rebounds and 11 steals, followed by Andri Dewey with 14 points and five steals, and Hannah Hix with eight rebounds.

Leading the team in the Lyman game was Stoeger with 13 points, 10 steals and four assists, Mallory Seymour with 13 points, Madelyn Heiser with 12 points and Ashelynn Birch with 10 rebounds.

Leading the team in Mountain View was Stoeger with 26 points, five rebounds and five steals, Heiser with nine points and three assists, Birch with eight points, nine rebounds and Dewey with three steals.
