Lady Wolves prepare for basketball season

With three games already under the Green River Lady Wolves Basketball team’s belt, they are preparing for the rest of the season.

Head coach Rick Carroll said the first few weekends of play are always a way for him to tell what the team will be like and how they will work together during the season.

So far, he is quickly learning what the team is doing well together and what areas they need to improve on.

Some positives the team has shown is they are quick and good at full-court press. He said they also communicate well on the defensive end of the game.

“Because we do communicate well, we do a good job of involving everybody on the offense as well,” he said.

Another positive aspect to this year’s Lady Wolves team, is they are playing unselfishly, which is something coach Carroll would like to see continue.

Of course, there are always areas to work on, and Carroll has already found a few of those too.

“A big one is doing a better job of rebounding and getting into position of rebounding,” Carroll said.

Turnovers is another area of weakness that seemed to stand out. During the first three games, the Lady Wolves were averaging 17 turnovers per game.

“We definitely had some turnovers over all three games,” Carroll said.

Shooting percentage was also an issue for the team at those three games. Carroll said they are getting the ball to the shooter, but having a problem getting the ball to go down.

As for the pace of the game, this is something the Lady Wolves like to control and they having been doing a good job of it so far.

“We try to keep the pace pretty fast,” he said. “That’s one of the things we do.”

The team is still learning how to work with one another, and they are glad to have the opportunity to play a few non conference games before settling into the conference-game season.

Although the starting lineup may change, Carroll did set one for the first three games and will continue with it. Lady Wolves starting this year are seniors Mallory Seymour and Taylor Stoeger, juniors Hannah Hix and Andri Dewey and freshman Madelyn Heiser.
