2 killed in alleged murder

Two Sweetwater County men were killed in an alleged double homicide in Gillette and two Gillette residents stand accused of their deaths.

According to the Gillette News-Record, Michael Montano, 37, of Gillette, is accused of killing 33-year-old Philip Brewer and 38-year-old Jody Fortuna, facing two second-degree homicide charges, as well as two charges of mutilation of dead human bodies. His bond was set at $2.5 million cash. Montano’s girlfriend, 22-year-old Kylee Collins, is charged with two counts conspiracy to mutilate a dead human body and accessory after the fact. Her bond was set at $100,000 cash or surety.

The News-Record reports no reason has been discovered that lead to the murders, and states Fortuna is from Rock Springs while Brewer was from Green River. It is also unknown when the alleged murders took place.

The two are accused of attempting to hide Brewer and Fortuna’s bodies after their deaths, with Montano alleged to have used a hand saw to dismember the bodies for later disposal.

Campbell County Sheriff’s Deputies were alerted to the alleged homicides when an unidentified woman reported she had seen Brewer’s body in the back of Montano’s truck, reporting a four odor coming from the bed of the truck.

During the investigation, deputies allegedly found two plastic totes in the bed of the pickup, with several black plastic bags containing dismembered male body parts.

Preliminary hearings are set for both Montano and Collins Oct. 18 at 1:30 p.m.
