Ball starts 1st run for council

Kenny Ball, a native Green River resident, is running for Green River City Council Ward I because he wants the opportunity to serve the community he grew up in.

Ball appreciates everything Green River has given him throughout his life and he wants to be able to be in the position to give back to the community. Although Ball lived in Laramie for a few years, he considers himself born and raised in Green River.

“When I lived in Laramie, my dad was still living here so I spent every weekend in Green River,” Ball said.

He feels very thankful for being able to grow up in Green River.

When Ball was a kid, he watched his dad serve as a councilman in Green River. He developed an interest and a desire to serve on the Green River City Council.

“I’ve wanted to run since I was in the third grade. My dad was on the council and since then I’ve wanted to be involved in city politics in Green River,” Ball said.

If elected, Ball wants to make sure the community is being taken care of, and he believes that starts with the community’s fire and police departments.

“I would like to continue to see funding grow for the fire department and the police department. I also want to keep up maintenance in the parks and streets,” Ball said.

Ball is a Western Wyoming Community College graduate and he recently got a job at Tata Chemicals. Though he is 21 years old, he believes he has the qualifications to serve as an effective council member for the city. He doesn’t see his age as either an obstacle or a drawback.

“I thought about my age a little bit and I figured people might see it as undesirable because I don’t have the government experience the other candidates have, but I’m a pretty well rounded, educated person,” he said.

“I know I’m young, but seeing my dad when I was growing up, I know I can do this job. I want to serve the city of Green River and give back to this place I grew up in and love.”
