Wrestlers compete, grow at Laramie team camp

A group of 32 wrestlers from Green River traveled to the University of Wyoming for a team camp June 19-22.

The camp hosted teams from Wyoming, Colorado, Nebraska and Montana. Each team competed in nine duals over three days and an individual tournament the last day. The Wolves went 9-0 in the duals, outscoring their opponents 558 to 120, while multiple Wolves won their brackets in the individual tournament.

There were four technique sessions throughout the four days where the wrestlers were able to pick up some things they can work on to improve.

“I am very excited about how the camp went. The wrestlers were able to learn some new things and got to compete in 12 matches against quality competition,” coach Marshall Rhodes said. “This will undoubtedly help keep our program moving in the right direction.”

With the conclusion of the UW camp, the team is finished with their summer training camps. Rhodes said the summer camps helps give wrestlers a chance to keep their skills sharpened during the off season. It also allows them to build relationships within the team, as well as individual responsibility, which Rhodes said will improve the team.

Wrestling for the Wolves were John Ty Leininger, Clayson Mele, Nathan Campos, Walker Gonzales, Kade Knezovich, Trevor Scicluna, Jacob Mondragon, Trevor Moser, Cody Price, Kade Flores, Jacob Weipert, Kaden Lloyd, Tanner Adam, Payton Tucker, Brett McKeehan, Justin Flores, Garrett Harris, Chance Anderson, Nathan McCann, Caleb Nathan, Justin Rubalcaba, James McCarter, Devon VanValkenburg, Jacob Mortensen, Gage Byers, Kaycee Cochrane, Zack Orr, Eric Clingenpeel, Blake Waite, Jordan Tucker, Dan Mondragon, and Talbert Bowen.
