Basketball, volleyball, dodgeball are highlights of FGD weekend

Sports has always been a major part of the Flaming Gorge Days celebration and it's no different this year.

Thursday will open the weekend's athletic contests with the annual golf tournament hosted at Rolling Green Country Club. The tournament is a two-person scramble ending on Saturday.

A newer event takes place Friday evening in the form of the Family Fun Glow Run. The run is in its second year and starts at Zehawi Field at 9 p.m. Check in starts at 8:30 p.m., and the course is approximately 2.1 miles in length.

The first 75 people registering for the run will receive a bag filled with glow in the dark trinkets and prizes will be handed out to the top three male and female finishers.

Advance registration is $20 per person and$5 for runners age 13 and up. A registration form can be found on the Flaming Gorge Days website.

Registration at the gate costs $25 per person, $10 for age 13 and up, while children 12 to six years of age can register for free.

The annual three-on-three basketball tournament again takes place at the outdoor courts near Evers Park. Competition takes place Friday and Saturday with games starting at 8 a.m.

The annual four-on-four volleyball tournament is another event attracting a lot of attention. Games take place Saturday on Expedition Island.

For those interested in playing horseshoes, the annual tournament starts at 8 a.m. Saturday on Expedition Island. Sigh ups take place at 8 a.m. for both singles and doubles, with action starting at 9 a.m. The registration fee for each division is $15.

NHPA rules apply to the tournament.

For people either seeking some fun or simply wanting to watch the action, Flaming Gorge Days offers a number of events for almost any interests.
