More candidates file for public offices

More candidates have filed for election to local offices, but time is running out for those interested in becoming a city councilman, county commissioner or state legislator.

As of Tuesday evening, two of the three available council slots in Green River will be contested. In Ward I, Richard Baxter and Tom Murphy will vie for the council seat while in Ward III Robert Berg will attempt to defeat incumbent Brett Stokes. Lisa Maes, the incumbent in Ward II, has filed for re-election, but faces no opposition at this time.

In Granger, only Kimberly Nygaard has filed to run for a town council position.

In the upcoming election for county commissioner, four people have registered to seek election. Democrats and Green River residents Mark Peterson and Bodan Janota have filed to run while incumbent Don Van Matre, also of Green River, and Rock Springs resident Raymond Avery have filed to run for the GOP.

Elections for seats within the Wyoming Legislature are so far uncontested. Incumbent Democrat John Freeman is running unopposed for another term in House District 60, while Democrat Stan Blake also is unopposed for re-election in House District 39. Michele Irwin, a Democrat living outside of Green River seeking her first term in the Wyoming Legislature, is running unopposed in House District 18.

In Rock Springs, the contests for legislative seats are unopposed as well. In Senate District 12, Democrat Liisa Anselmi-Dalton is the sole person seeking election in the district after Bernadine Craft, D-Rock Springs, announced she would not seek another term in the Wyoming Senate.

For the U.S. House of Representatives, six Republicans, a Democrat and a Libertarian have filed. The Republians are Heath Beaudry of Evanston, Jason Senteney of Yoder, Mike Konsmo of Powell, Pail Paad of Casper, Tim Stubson of Casper and Rex Rammell of Gillette. Liz Cheney of Wilson is also vying for election, but has not officially filed.
