Matt Anderson

Matt Anderson, 88, of Rock Springs passed away Feb. 23, 2016, at the Sage View Care Center in Rock Springs. A lifelong resident of Rock Springs, Anderson had been in ill health for the past month.

He was born on Aug. 13, 1927, in Rock Springs, the son of Henry and Catherine (Smith) Anderson. He attended schools in Rock Springs.  

Matt married Patsy Ruth (Graham) Anderson in Rock Springs, Nov. 2, 1951.

Matt was a United States World War II Navy Veteran and enlisted June 20, 1945, and was honorably discharged Aug. 14, 1946. 

He was a rancher for many years at the Erickson-Kent Ranch until he went to work for Stauffer Chemical, now Ciner, as a mechanic and retired after 20 years.

He loved his family, and watching his son and grandson team rope. He enjoyed riding, hunting and his son's family shelties. He continued riding horses up to the age of 86.

Survivors include his wife Ruth Anderson; one son, Jim and wife Peggy Anderson; and his grandson Carl "CJ" Anderson, all of Rock Springs.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Ralph Anderson and his sister Nettie. Following cremation, a memorial service will take place in the Calamity Jane Room at the Best Western Outlaw Inn at 1630 Elk Street in Rock Springs, on Sunday from 2-4:30 p.m.
