Boys lose two games in Natrona County

The Green River High School varsity basketball team fought to keep the lead Friday night.

They played against Natrona County High School in Casper, leading the game all through the first quarter. Natrona would take the lead at the end of the second quarter, which they would hold on to for the rest of the game.

Chance Hofer scored 14 points for the team. Hunter Spartz made 15 points during the game, his personal high of the season.

“We outscored them 22 to 13 in the fourth quarter, but it was too little, too late,” head coach Laurie Ivie said.

The game ended with a loss to Natrona, 59-76.

“We struggle to overcome adversity within the flow of the game,” Ivie said. “When Natrona scored … we immediately hung our heads and completely forgot that we had just dominated and won 7 minutes and 50 seconds of that quarter.”

When the wolves finally picked themselves back up again in the fourth quarter, the score difference was too high to come back from.

Saturday, the wolves played against another Casper team, Kelly Walsh. The two high scoring wolves during the game were Cameron Morris, making 11 points for the team, and freshman Chase Stoeger, who scored nine points during the game.

Green River lost the game to Kelly Walsh, with the ending score of 67-42.

“Kelly Walsh is playing their best basketball of the season,” Ivie said. “Coach Roden is an excellent coach. His teams are always disciplined, and this team was no exception.”

Ivie said Kelly Walsh played a very hard-nosed defense and offensively, all of their players are a threat during the game; they share the ball.

That type of offense was more difficult for the wolves to play defensively against.

The Green River Wolves will face off against Evanston next in a conference game Thursday. They will then face Riverton in a home game Friday at 7 p.m. at the Green River High School Gym.
