GR residents can repurpose old books

Turn old books into beautiful holiday decorations with the help of the crafty staff at the Sweetwater County Library.

The library’s Holiday Altered Books Workshop will be Dec. 12. Those wanting to participate can drop by anytime between 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the library, 300 N. 1st E. in Green River.

Altered books is the process of recycling old books into pieces of art. Projects can be big and use an entire book, or they can be small, using as little as one page from a book.

Reference Specialist Bianca Jorgensen, who is helping organize the event, said the workshop will have stations throughout the library with different crafts. The projects will range from holiday cards to ornaments for a tree. The event will have projects suitable for kids and adults, so this is an event for the whole family.

All the supplies for the crafts will be provided and the workshop is free.

“You will be leaving with your hands full,” Jorgensen said.

The Holiday-Themed Altered Books workshop is sponsored by the Sweetwater County Library System.
