Helpers, performers make dinner special

Green River residents attending the Golden Hour Senior Center's Thanksgiving Dinner Thursday were waited on and entertained by Green River students.

Theater students from the Green River High School were busy going through their state drama performances, which included singing, one-act plays and monologues, while residents visited and ate dinner.

"The students did very well, they have worked hard," theater director Terrin Musbach said. "We knew that the seniors were having their Thanksgiving lunch, and that it would be noisy. It was great practice for the students to persevere through the noise."

With 28 students going to state drama, the students are taking advantage of practicing in a public setting.

There are more than 30 individual events with about 27 Wyoming schools in attendance.

"These performances help get the jitters out so they are ready for critiques," she said. "Their attitudes about critiques are why I love working with them. If only we all were so receptive to critiques."

Meanwhile, students from Expedition Academy were busy serving dinners, pouring water and cleaning up tables as residents left. The GHSC's entire dining room was filled to capacity at the 11:30 a.m. dinner, but wasn't as full during its 1 p.m. dinner.

Students were working hard to make the day special for those in attendance. Even though the drama students were only at the first sitting, their performances were appreciated.

Expedition Academy students worked to serve guests through both sittings. Some brought meals to the tables, while others cleaned off plates and dumped out left-over beverages. This is just one of the many community service projects Expedition Academy students participate in throughout the year.

Seniors were commenting throughout the meal how wonderful it was for the students to help out and to perform. Their help really made a difference in the event.
