Seniors prepare for trick or treaters

Trick or treaters searching for a warm, safe place to trick or treat while obtaining a lot of candy in one place will not have to look any more.

Once again, Mission at Castle Rock Rehabilitation Center and The Villa is hosting a trick-or-treating event.

CRRC activities director Kelly Williams said on Saturday, Halloween, the center will hand out candy from 6:30-8 p.m. or until the candy runs out. Trick or treaters will start out at The Villa and make their way to the multipurpose room where the majority of the CRRC residents will be located.

“There will be signs and lines. I can guarantee it,” Williams said.

This event is something the residents, volunteers and attendees enjoy.

“It will probably be about 75 percent of the residents,” she said. “It is one of their favorite things to do.”

All residents are encouraged to participate, but not all of them do. A lot of these residents do not have a lot of interaction because they stay in their rooms watching television or sleeping.

“It’s been scientifically proven that interaction can help with morale,” she said. “We try to get them out as much as we can.”

The community benefits because it is a warm and safe place to get a lot of candy on Halloween.

“It’s warmer and you get a lot of candy in one spot,” Williams said.

In the past, this event has averaged about 800 trick or treaters; and Williams is hoping this year will be no different.

With a crowd like that, the need for candy is something the CRRC is always needing.

“I spent $700 on 114 bags of candy and that’s probably about 1/3 of what I need,” Williams said. “We are still in need.”

The CRRC has received generous donations from businesses and Green River families, but they will need more candy donations or money to buy candy before the event.

“We could probably use another $700 worth of candy,” she said. “We will take donations until the time we open.”
