Volleyball team sees mixed week

A non-conference tournament in Casper resulted in wins for the Green River High School volleyball Team, as well as exposure to the top-ranked team in the state.

The Lady Wolves attended the Casper Invite last weekend at Natrona County High School.

The first two opponents of their Friday schedule would fall to the Lady Wolves. The first team, from Kaycee, was defeated in two sets, as well as the second opposing team from Wheatland. Head coach Rikki Shantz said teams have a tendency to play down to lower-division teams, but added the girls overcame that tendency and played hard in both games.

Their last game Friday night was against the top-ranked 4A team from Cheyenne East High School. Shantz said the girls played hard against Cheyenne East, but believes the pressure of keeping their winning streak alive resulted in the team trying too hard and as a result, making more mistakes than usual.

Following their defeat by Cheyenne East, the team returned to form against Rawlins, defeating their volleyball team in two sets. However, a rematch against a Natrona team looking to exact some revenge on the Lady Wolves for their earlier defeat ended with a two-set loss for Green River. The rematch was a non-conference game.

Tuesday night, the girls traveled to Evanston and lost in three sets against the Lady Red Devils.

The team will play Thursday night in Riverton.
