Michael F. Chadey

Michael F. Chadey passed away Sept. 26 at the Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County after a lengthy illness. 

Chadey was born in Rock Springs Aug. 1, 1958 to Henry and Helen (Putz) Chadey.  He attended schools in Rock Springs and was a member of the RSHS graduating class of 1976.  While at RSHS Mike was a member of the student government and the national honor society, he played basketball and football and played in the 3rd Annual Shrine game for the South Team.

Chadey attended the University of Wyoming and graduated in 1979 with a bachelor of science degree in history.  He worked for Mountain Fuel before going back to the University of Wyoming for his Juris Doctor degree, which he completed in 1984. 

In 1986 he opened his law office and continued to practice law until his death. He served as an administrative law judge for the State of Wyoming from 1990-2009, he also maintained a general law practice and represented numerous boards and individuals. Chadey served on the Rock Springs Improvement Foundation, the Rock Springs Urban Renewal Board, the Catholic Charities Board and the Advisory Council for Wyoming Public Radio, where he served as president in 1996 and then again from 2009-2013. He was a member of the Wyoming State Bar and the Sweetwater County Bar Association.

Chadey was an avid downhill and cross country skier, he traveled the U.S. and Europe pursuing downhill skiing adventures and he pioneered numerous cross country skiing activities in the local area.

He was an avid backpacker as well as white water rafter and canoer. He enjoyed sailing, not only on the Flaming Gorge, but on the East and West coasts of the U.S.

Chadey was a member of the Holy Spirit Catholic Community and was active in the Slovinski Dom.

He is survived by his wife of 19 years, Lynne Chadey, and his children John Henry Chadey, Joseph Gillespie and companion Julie Moran, Amelia Santa and her husband Brent and their children Broderick and Hadley. He is also survived by his sisters Katherine Chadey and husband Robert Lien, Mary Jo Chadey and Jeanne Babcock and husband Woody and numerous nephews and nieces and many cousins. 

Chadey is preceded in death by his father, Henry Chadey and his father in-law and mother-in-law, Joseph and Margaret Hurney.

Following cremation, a mass of Christian burial will take place Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Saints Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church, 633 Bridger Avenue, Rock Springs, Wyoming.  A rosary will be recited on Friday at 6 p.m. Inurnment will be in the Rock Springs Municipal Cemetery.
