School district launches new website

No more guessing whether your child has homework or not.

No more shenanigans. Parents will also easily be able to know within a few clicks or less about events going on for multiple schools, all at once.

This and more will now be possible with Sweetwater County School District No. 2’s newly developed website, http://www.swcsd2.org, which launched Aug. 19.

“We’re hoping it’s going to be very informative for parents, the community and staff alike,” Assistant Superintendent Jamie Christensen said. “We’re hoping it becomes more of a communication tool for teachers to parents. It has that ability.”

Each teacher within the school district has their own page, which parents can subscribe to. They can also subscribe to a teacher’s specific class. By subscribing, parents can find their child’s assignments, due dates, class events and activities; all depending on how the teacher decides to utilize their personal page.

Christensen says some teachers will adopt and utilize their personal pages on the website as a communication tool faster than others.

“We’re still in the process of training folks on how to do that,” Christensen said. “Just not quite there yet, but we sure got a good start.”

Christensen’s goal is to get all of the teachers within the district to make the best use of the website by Christmas time. The calendar though, is useful now, Christensen said.

“One thing we’ve really been harping on is the calendar events being updated,” Christensen said. “That is one of the main things we have to focus on so people have accurate information.”

The new calendar platform on the district’s website allows parents to view the calendar events for either one, all, or a select few schools simultaneously. Parents can choose which schools’ calendars they want to view. This aspect can be helpful for families with children attending different schools. The calendar can also be printed out, an aspect that is useful for an item to hang on the fridge, Christensen said.

Christensen also said the layout of the new website is very clean and organized, and easy to use; much easier than the previous website format.

“The saying goes, nothing should be more than three clicks away,” Superintendent Donna Little-Kaumo said. “When the website becomes more populated, I think people will find it really useful.”
