Bombshells blast Wreck on Wheels

The Bittersweet Bombshells won their first home game of the year Saturday. It was pandemonium at the Rock Springs Family Recreational Center when the Bombshells clashed with Big Horn Basin’s Wreck on Wheels.

The Bombshells took the game 197-166.

“It was exciting and they made us fight for the win,” player Melissa Crowell said.

This was not the first time the Bombshells played against the Wreck on Wheels. The Wreck on Wheels won their previous bout.

“We came out with a strong vengeance,” Bombshell Michelle Balzly said. “They adapted and we weren’t ready for them to adapt so quickly. We had the lead the whole time; a huge lead. They got closer and we had to revise our strategy.”

“I think we got more aggressive,” Bombshell Cara Kelsey said. “It was a close game, definitely.”

During the bout, Melinda Soto of Wreck on Wheels suffered an injury breaking her leg and ankle in multiple places. She was flown to Billings, Montana for surgery following the bout.

The members of Bittersweet Bombshells plan to send her a care package to best suit her needs.

“You need to be ready to play this game,” Kelsey cautioned her teammates. “It’s not if you get hurt in Roller Derby, it’s when.”
