Lady Wolves have what it takes to end east streak

It’s time for the eastern side of the state to have a little trouble at the Wyoming 4A State Girl’s Soccer Tournament.

During the past five years, the east has swept the west in the first round of the tournament. If there is a team to break the streak, it will be Green River High School.

While the 4A West regular season champs have not played their best soccer of the season the past few weeks, they have the tools to take down Laramie Thursday morning. When they are playing confident, they are a scoring machine capable of ten goals in a heartbeat. Unlike many teams across the state who only have a couple of scoring options, they have about six or seven girls that can find the back of the net at any given time.

After watching the team this season, I know just how good they can be. I hope they realize how good they are and can bring the confidence going into the game. Sometimes sports are a little more than what happens on the pitch or the field, there is also a huge mental aspect to the game. If the Lady Wolves come in ready to go, they will be hard to beat.

I’m sure they’ve also been eager for another chance at Laramie after what happened when the two teams met during the first round last season, a game which Laramie won 7-1. Green River came into the game with just one loss and their dream of a state championship was gone after a couple early goals by Laramie. It’s time for the Wolves to come out and get an early advantage and advance to the next round. There is no reason they can’t be playing in the semifinals, and it starts with beating Laramie.
