James Carl Luckey

James Carl Luckey, 75, of Rock Springs, passed away at his home May 21, 2015. A longtime resident of Rock Springs, Luckey passed away following a brief illness.

He was born on Nov. 12, 1939 in Riverside, Iowa, the son of the late Carl A. Luckey and Martha Annas.

Luckey attended schools in Riverside, Iowa and obtained his GED in 1969

He worked for the Iowa State Highway Department, Maytag Company in Newton, Iowa and retired from Stauffer/OCI Chemical Company outside Green River in 1993. 

Luckey was married to Edith Henning, Oct. 28, 1961. From this marriage two children were born, Connie Jo and Linda. He and Edith moved to Theodosia, Mo. for two years and then moved to Kellogg, Iowa where they lived until Edith's passing.

Luckey and his daughter Linda returned to Rock Springs in 1994. He married Carolyn Moree Dec. 15, 2007 and they had seven and a half happy years together. Luckey was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Riverside, Iowa; Oregon California Trails Association; Sweetwater County Historical Society; Lincoln Highway Association; search and rescue and NRA. He was an expert woodworker and made many decorations for home and for others. He was an avid hunter and fisherman until ill health forced him to give it up.

Survivors include his wife Carolyn Luckey of Rock Springs and daughter Linda Luckey of Rock Springs; special friend Gail Burkis of Casper; step-daughter Jean Gorthy (Willis) of Aiken, S.C .; four sisters-in-law, one brother-in-law, many nieces, nephews, friends and a very special little girl, Andrea Zacarias.

He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife Edith Luckey; daughter Connie Jo; brothers and sisters Dale, Lyle, Eileen, Clover, Rose Marie, Fred, Virginia, Nancy, Patty, Marilla and Bill.

Memorial services took place Tuesday, May 26, 2015.
