GR cops take on seniors at Wii Bowling

Often, when someone is dealing with the Green River Police Department, it's usually in regards to a crime, civil problem or a traffic stop.

However, Thursday morning, members of the Golden Hour Senior Center Wii Bowling league had a chance to bowl with a few of Green River's finest. Golden Hour Senior Center Activities Director Megan Brown said she initially got the idea when she watched seniors in Salt Lake City take on the the city's fire department in a bowling tournament. She decided to contact the GRPD because she wasn't sure if the volunteer fire department would be able to have a lot of members stop by.

Lt. Burke Morin, one of the four GRPD members competing, said community events like the Wii Bowling competition help the department maintain some visibility in the community while interacting with residents in a positive manner.

Green River High School Student Resource Officer Ken Yager said the event was enjoyable, allowing him to chat with residents in a relaxed setting.

Wii Bowling is popular amongst senior centers as it allows people who may have lost the strength to bowl a chance to engage in the activity.

Brown said Golden Hour's Wii bowlers are a very active group, consisting of 21 regular bowlers who not only compete at the center, but travel to other nearby senior centers for competitions.
