Libraries to celebrate National Library Week

Think about all the things one can do with their library card. Residents can check out books, check out movies and music, and access digital items such as eBooks, digital audiobooks, streaming movies and databases.

Libraries also have educational programs for people of all ages, from Toddler Time and Story Time for our youngest community members, to nutrition programs and humanities programs for adults.

The possibilities libraries make available are truly unlimited. That’s why the theme for this year’s National Library Week is Unlimited Possibilities at Your Library. Help celebrate all the possibilities at the library during National Library Week, April 13-18.

National Library Week started in 1958 as a way to celebrate all that libraries offer to communities and as a way to promote library use. Today, all types of libraries celebrate National Library Week.

To celebrate National Library Week here in Sweetwater County, the libraries have several activities and events planned. Special activities planned include:

* Cookies and punch for patrons on April 13

* Guessing jars with prizes for kids and adults all week

* A library scavenger hunt for kids at Rock Springs Library all week

* Pickle for a Poem on April 14 and 16, and Snacks for a Song on April 15 for kids at White Mountain Library

* National Poetry Month displays at Sweetwater County Library in Green River. Kids who check out a book of poetry will receive a special bookmark

* Contests all week on our Facebook Page -- make sure to follow the libraries!
