Martin J. Scala

Martin J. Scala, 90, of Rock Springs, passed away March 19, 2015 at the Deseret Health and Rehab Center in Rock Springs.

A lifelong resident of Rock Springs, Scala passed away following a lengthy illness.

He was born in Rock Springs on June 24, 1924, the son of the late Henry Scala and Maddalena Marta.

Scala attended schools in Rock Springs and graduated from Rock Springs High School with the class of 1943.

He served in the United States Air Force during World War II.

Scala worked as a heavy equipment operator until his retirement in 1988.

He was a member of the Holy Spirit Catholic Community and the Disabled Veterans of America.

Survivors include of New York and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Leo Scala; two sisters, Theresa Penoff and Christine Brownhill, and two brothers-in-law, Jack Penoff and Don Brownhill.

A mass of Christian burial took place Wednesday.
