Resident denies alleged relationship

A man accused of having sex with a minor pleaded innocent to all three felony charges.

Scotty Don Anderson, 23, appeared in the Third District Court of Judge Richard Lavery at an arraignment to three counts of third-degree sexual abuse of a minor.

If found guilty of all three charges, Anderson could face a maximum sentence of 45 years in prison and a maximum fine of $30,000. A jury trial has been scheduled to take place June 8, 2015.

According to court documents, on Jan. 14, 2015, a Rock Springs Police officer was assigned to a Department of Family Services case about Anderson allegedly having sexual relationship with a 16-year-old girl.

On Jan. 15, a Green River Police detective spoke with the girl and her foster parent. The girl told the detective that prior to moving to Green River in November of 2014, she lived in a trailer court with her legal guardian in Rock Springs, which was the same trailer court Anderson and his girlfriend lived in.

The girl told the detective that Anderson and his girlfriend got into an argument and he then moved into her trailer.

She and Anderson started dating; with the girl calling him her boyfriend. The girl said that sometime in October of 2014, she was in Anderson’s room and after a discussion about whether or not she wanted to have a baby they allegedly had unprotected intercourse. She said she allegedly had unprotected intercourse with Anderson two more times after that.

The girl also told the officer Anderson knew she was 16 years old, because he asked her and she told him. She said her legal guardian was aware of the alleged sexual relationship, but the guardian told her not to tell anyone or DFS would find out. After they moved to Green River, the legal guardian told the girl that she should stop having sexual relations because DFS would find out. The girl also told the officer that her legal guardian was in the residence during the alleged sexual relations.

The girl was placed into foster care shortly after she moved to Green River.

On Jan. 21, 2015, an officer spoke with Anderson’s ex girlfriend, who said she knew Anderson and the girl were dating; and she knew they were allegedly having sex because Anderson told her they were.

Anderson’s sister was also interviewed by an officer; and she talked to Anderson about how old the girl was; and about him allegedly having sex with the girl.
