Reed Clevenger started his post with the City of Green River Monday.

Clevenger, who was hired to be the new city administrator, said his biggest focus right now is on the budget, which will be taking center stage with the governing body in the coming months.

The city hosted a workshop session last week to allow Chris Steffen, Chief of Police for Green River, and Laura Profaizer, director of community development, to discuss staffing needs in their respective departments.

“There’s a lot of items the governing body’s wishing to do,” Clevenger said. “It’s a work in progress.”

Clevenger said beyond the budget work, he’s still settling in with the new position, saying a lot of residents have expressed support since he was officially hired.

“I think there’s a good feeling (in the city,)” he said. “It’s a good time for a fresh start.”

He said he intends to meet with everyone in the city offices during the next few weeks and also plans to maintain an open door policy with residents and employees if he’s available.

Clevenger’s appointment to city administrator was approved by the Green River City Council two weeks ago.

While he did not have experience within municipal government, council members said they believe he would be able to learn the position quickly and become an effective city administrator.

According to Clevenger’s Linkedin profile, his previous experience includes working as the executive director of the Sweetwater One Foundation, a position which started Oct. 2012.

He also worked as president of ikeeps, Inc, a manufacturing and wholesale distribution company in Cary, N.C.; was the cofounder and COO of Twongo, LLC from Sept. 2009 to Aug. 2011; was the COO and board member for Rival Sport, LLC, an apparel brand. He also worked in a number of positions for Nike, Inc., including as its director of sourcing in the U.S. Region and the operations manager for European Apparel Production in the Netherlands.
