Freshman off to solid start

The future of Green River High School boy’s basketball is looking bright.

After undefeated campaigns their seventh and eighth-grade years, the Wolves freshman basketball season has started the 2014-15 campaign with an impressive 13-4 record.

Head coach Tim Cassity said the team has been very competitive throughout the season and played very well.

“They work hard and they are very easy to coach,” he said.

When discussing the strengths of the team Cassity said they are very aggressive, defend better than any team he has seen in a long time, have some good scorers and run the floor very well.

“They show up everyday and want to get after it. They love basketball. They love the game,” he said.

Looking to the future, he said the members of the team are going to make a big impact next year.

“They work well together. It’s going to be very promising,” Cassity said about the future.

This season, the Wolves have defeated Evanston and Rock Springs, but have also had the opportunity to face several teams they did not have a chance to play during middle school and have faired well.

Green River has a 2-1 record against a Star Valley team that Cassity said is really good. He said they also were able to beat Cheyenne Central and Cheyenne South and lost a heartbreaker to Cheyenne East.

“They are competitive with anybody. They have their ups and downs, but on a normal day they can play with anybody,” he said.

This weekend the team will travel to compete at a tournament in Evanston.

The members of the 2015 team incude Kyle Cacho, Brayden Kovick, Candon Croft, Brody Belcher, Cruz Lucero, Dakota Wingard, Cole White, Chance Hofer, Cameron Morris, Jaymin Carroll, Devin Love, Jake Angelovich, Carter Malec and Austin Collar.
