Council watched through newspaper

He’s been a resident of Green River for nearly 40 years and for most of those years, he been an avid reader of the Green River Star.

Harry Holler, who is known throughout the community for his ongoing work to bring recognition to the county’s sons and daughters serving in the armed forces, said he reads the newspaper to keep up with the political decisions being made at City Hall and the Sweetwater County Courthouse.

“If you don’t know what’s going on in your community, you have no reason to gripe,” Holler said.

When he first moved to the community, Holler decided if he wanted to make the city his home, he would want to know what’s going on.

While he has a keen interest in city politics, he thoroughly reads the newspaper every week. Holler said the Star has improved, little by little, during the years he’s been a subscriber and enjoys reading about the people featured within its pages.

“It’s a good little newspaper,” Holler said. “I’ve been very pleased with the Star, that’s why I’ve been a subscriber so long.”

Holler said following local government is important because the laws passed by city councilmen or county commissioners have an impact on everyone and encourages newer residents of the city to follow local government as well.

Dee Wadsworth is one of the newspaper’s most recent subscribers. Wadsworth has lived in Green River for 42 years and was a previous subscriber, but dropped it when she and her husband had to make changes in their budget.

Wadsworth said she decided to pick up her subscription again after noticing a lot of information and news about Green River printed in the Star didn’t appear in other media outlets.

Specifically mentioning articles about high school sports and people, Wadsworth said she couldn’t find fault with what appears in the newspaper. She does wish the Star would start printing the movie theater schedules, saying she and her family don’t go to Rock Springs often enough to follow what the current movie listings are.

Beyond informing her family, the newspaper serves a secondary purpose for Wadsworth as well.

She said the paper makes a great fire starter after she finishes reading it.
