GRHS wrestlers head to Utah tourney

The Green River High School wrestling team will begin the 2015 portion of their schedule against some solid competition.

Fresh off a second place finish at a large tournament in Colorado, the Wolves will once again take to the road this weekend when they travel to the Tournament of Champions in Vernal, Utah.

Green River head coach Marshall Rhodes said some of the better teams in Utah should be at the two-day tournament.

After a first-place finish in Evanston and the second-place finish in Grand Junction, Colo., Rhodes said he is happy with the toughness in his team.

Rhodes said some of the teams they defeated in the standings had more wrestlers in the final rounds, but many of the Green River wrestlers fought hard to work their way through the consolation brackets.

He praised those wrestlers saying it's hard to come back and continue to wrestle after a loss.

"I'm happy with our toughness. The kids have fought hard," Rhodes said.

The Wolves returned to practice last week after having the week of Christmas off.

Rhodes said they had several two-a-day practices and focused on getting the team in better shape.

He said the also worked of individual wrestlers fixing mistakes. Rhodes added it's important for his team to work to improve and fix something each week of the season.
