Girls starts with Star Valley

For the first time in several years, the Green River High School girl’s basketball team will get the opportunity to open the season at home.

The 2014-15 Lady Wolves will start their campaign Friday night at 5:30 p.m. against Star Valley.

New head coach Aric Hanusa said it’s great to be opening the season at home and they are really looking for fan support.

“I noticed that with our volleyball team, they made a run to state and a lot of that confidence was from from the fans and home crowd and knowing that people cared about them. I think that’s important,” he said. “The home crowd is always great to have and we saw the benefits of it during regional volleyball.”

Hanusa has watched some film from last year’s Star Valley team and they will be a tough matchup.

“They have some good tradition and work ethic. I expect a good challenge.” he said.

The first-year coach added the biggest thing is that Green River doesn’t beat themselves.

“We can control what we can control. If we can’t pass, catch, and dribble, we’re going to struggle, no matter what the other team does,” he said. “We’re just going to worry about our own business.”

Starting with the opening game, Hanusa said they will be doing some incentives for fans with money raised from the booster club.

He said at halftimes of home games a fan chosen from a drawing will have a chance to make $5 in concession funds with a layup, a gift card from a local restaurant with a free throw, a t-shirt with a three-pointer, and $50 to $100 if they make a half-court shot.

The Lady Wolves will host the Flaming Gorge Classic next week with three games in three days.
