Trunk or Treat Saturday

With Halloween just around the corner, one of the more crowd-pleasing family events will take place Saturday in downtown Green River.

The Green River Main Street Trunk or Treat is scheduled to take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on N. 1st. East.

“This is definitely one of our more popular event and the biggest in the downtown area,” Green River Main Street Administrator Jennie Melvin said.

This year’s event will include kids games, a photo area with a professional photographer, a costume contest for both kids and pets, truck or treating, pumpkin hunt, vendors and the annual trunk decorating contest that has a traveling trophy.

Melvin said that last year, nearly 1,000 kids and the attendance was much larger when including their families.

She said because of the high numbers in attendance, that this year, organizers have worked to simplify the event.

“With that many kids we don’t want to make it to chaotic,” she said.

Looking back at past events, Melvin said it’s always neat to see entire families come along with pets come to the event dressed up.

“It’s a fun time. It’s one of our favorite events,” she said.
