Givens continues amazing season, team finishes strong

It was another strong week for the Green River High School girl’s cross country team.

Competing with three other teams at the Evanston Invite, the Lady Wolves had four runners finish in the top 15 including another strong run from Josie Givens.

The junior finished first in the race with a time of 20:57.40. She edged out Hannah Behunin of Mountain View who had defeated her earlier this season in a down to the wire race. Behunin finished with a time of 21:55.01.

Head coach Steve Boyd said Givens is running great and beat a good runner by almost a minute.

Cassie Newcomb finished fourth for Green River with a time of 22:22.46 and Nicole Davis was fifth with a final time of 22:34.40.

Cheyenne McMichael was eighth at 23:49.50 and Kaleigh Allison ended the race in 14th with a time of 25:19.74.

As a team the Lady Wolves finished in first place over Evanston, Mountain View and Lyman.

Mary Shafe finished in 22nd with a time of 28:36.17, Adrianne Barton with 24th with a time of 29:11.95 and Kristen Knezovich finished in 25th with a final time of 30:50.23.

The Green River boys also had four runners finish in the top 15. Senior Austin Waters led the way with a sixth place finish and a time of 19:25.57

Curtis Westenskow finished eighth with a time of 19:33.94, Brayden Kovick ended in ninth with a time of 19:34.18 and Jaryn Johnson was 15th, finishing the race with a time of 20:00.57.

Greg Vanderpool finished 24th at 21:38.95, Miles Moffit was 26th at 21:49.12 and Caleb Nathan was 27th with a time of 22:12.71.

Boyd said it was a tough course on a hot day in Evanston, but was happy with his team.

“I was pleased with the performance,” he said.

The team will travel to Casper Friday to compete at the Natrona Invite. Boyd said they are looking forward to competing against the two Casper schools.
