Seniors in Green River were just as busy as other residents in 2015. From Wii Bowling, pool, card games, jam sessions, writing classes, arts and crafts, Zumba, line dancing and dice games, to dinners, Farmer's Markets and craft fairs the Golden Hour Senior Center and the Mission at Castle Rock Rehabilitation Center and The Villa had a lot of their time occupied. The Green River High School Boys Swimming and Diving Team didn’t have to travel far to compete two weeks ago. Due to a problem with the Riverton High School pool, the Riverton Invite was moved to the GRHS aquatics center, giving the team a respite from traveling on the winter roads. In 2015, the community of Green River was busy donating their time, giving donations or being recognized for their accomplishments. 2015 kicked off with both communities seeking blood donations. Both Green River High School and Rock Springs High School competed in the Premier Bone and Joint Center's Blood Drive Challenge. Animal control officers met an individual at the animal shelter who was there to pick up their dog. A traffic warning for speeding was issued on Uinta Drive. Animal control officers received a call of a dog at large on Hillcrest Way. The dog was described as a black lab mix without a collar. Green River has a new restaurant opening in town. Staci Ann's Cafe opened Monday at 95 East Railroad Avenue. The opening was the soft launch for the restaurant. Antonina "Toni" Pallesen, 89, of Green River passed away at her home Dec. 25, 2015. She was born on April 2, 1926 in a town near Kiev, Ukraine, daughter of Dmitro and Domka Prozka; baptized Greek Orthodox. When the Germans invaded Ukraine, she was taken from her home at age 15 and placed in a work camp in Germany. There she met her future husband Delbert Pallesen of Manila, Utah.
