He said with so many fires in Washington, Idaho and Montana, it is hard to tell which state or if all three are contributing to the smoky conditions, which at times have made it...

  • Letter: Seeking a response about the deer

    Aug 26, 2015

Dear Editor, Several months ago I read in the newspaper that half the respondents to a survey thought the city’s deer population was a problem. That half of the respondents didn’t think the deer were a problem gave the mayor and City Council license to do nothing. Their doing nothing has resulted in the City of Green River remaining a sanctuary city for deer. In the Sanctuary City of Green River, the deer munch their way through town, destroying gardens and trees the residents have invested much time, effort and money. I can’t help but...

August is just about over, but you still have time to celebrate romance. Whether you find it at home, on a date, or at the library, August is the month to think about romance. If you’re still looking for romance, might I suggest a visit to the...

  • Notes from town square: The dying trees in GR

Misty Springer, Green River Public Affairs and Grants Administrator|Aug 26, 2015

The city’s Parks and Rec. Department does a great deal of work behind the scenes which makes this community a beautiful place to live. Most of what they do never gets noticed, but that’s okay because the people working in Parks and Rec. are not looking for praise. In the cruel paradox that is public service however, just as one’s victories are rarely remarked upon, errors are rarely overlooked. And so, the city would like to explain the sad story of what happened to many of the dear trees that line our lovely streets. Every year when...

  • A recent, favorite Wyoming moment

    Lillian Palmer, Staff Writer|Aug 26, 2015

A friend and I were recently discussing what our favorite Wyoming moments would be, specifically the Green River or Rock Springs moments. I had a hard time narrowing it down. I honestly couldn’t think of a specific one, but not because I don’t have any fun or memorable moments in Wyoming. I’ve spent the majority of my life in Wyoming, so many of my memories have been in Wyoming and many of them in Green River and Rock Springs. Something happened last week though that I decided deserved to...

  • Residents create paper mache vases

    Stephanie Thompson, People Editor|Aug 26, 2015

The residents would dip a paintbrush into the glue and then paint it onto a balloon. The balloon was stuck to a plastic cup, which held it in place while the residents worked on them. Once the balloon had glue on it, the...
